We can feel the smell of Spring and in Chianti there are several events related to plants and flowers. We want to highlight two of those, one is traditional, the Festa del Giaggiolo (Iris) in San Polo in Chianti, and an innovative one: SlowFlowers, that this year will hold the annual event very near Testalepre.

Giaggiolo, or Iris, symbol of Florence, is a bulb that spontaneously blooms in this period of the year along Chianti’s paths. In San Polo Iris flower has been cultivated since 1850 and its use goes from cosmetics to herbal medicins. From the 5th to the 8th of May this flower will be celebrated in the village of San Polo in Chianti.

SlowFlowers Italy is an association that believes in the fact that flowers’ production can and should be environmentally sustainable and organic, deeply-rooted in the territory, respecting seasonal rhythms. SlowFlowers encourages the knowledge of spontaneous and local flowers and it creates events for sharing knowledge to enthusiasts and professionals of the sector. This year the meeting, with workshops, roundtables and many floral fittings will take place at the church of Sant’Angelo Vico a l’Abate, a building from the XII century. From Testalepre we can reach Sant’Angelo Vico a l’Abate walking through the forest and fields in about one hour, passing from Vignano, Luciana and down the valley along via Vico l’Abate. We will not miss the event, promising much beauty! Have a look at the schedule and sign in the workshops online at www.slowflowersitaly.it
